A piece to keep

Bought it as a surprise for my girlfriend, she had the whisk out before I'd finished wrapping the box...

Fits right in with mine

Third piece I've added to the collection now, each one slightly different in glaze which is exactly why I keep coming back

Overview
The Han Wa Teapot combines an archaic architectural silhouette with an intricate hand carved landscape and a fully sculpted tiger. Its deep near black Shi Huang clay creates a dramatic backdrop for the cranes, pine trees, mountains and clouds carved across the body.

With a 255 ml capacity and unusually wide opening, it remains practical for regular tea preparation while offering the presence of a collector's piece.
Details

Han Wa Form
The Han Wa silhouette draws from the shape of ancient Han dynasty roof tiles. Its broad, low profile and generous opening give it a more substantial presence than traditional rounded teapots.

Original Ore Shi Huang Clay
The body is made from original ore Shi Huang, or stone yellow clay. After firing, the clay develops a deep near black tone that creates strong contrast against the carved relief.

Full Body Hand Carving
The entire body features a continuous relief scene depicting cranes among pine trees, mountains and drifting clouds. Each element is carved directly into the clay, creating depth and natural shadow across the surface.

Sculpted Tiger Lid
A three dimensional crouching tiger sits across the lid, replacing the conventional simple knob with a fully sculpted focal element. The alert posture gives the piece its distinctive character and connects directly with the traditional hidden dragon, crouching tiger theme.

Handcrafted Construction
The teapot is entirely handmade by skilled zisha artisans. The carving, shaping and finishing are performed individually, creating natural variations that make each piece unique.

Internal Ball Hole Filter
An internal push ball hole filter is integrated into the spout to help retain tea leaves while maintaining a clean and consistent pour.

Generous Opening
The 8.8 cm opening provides ample access for adding tea leaves and cleaning the interior, making the sculptural form practical as well as decorative.

Developing Patina
With regular use, the natural clay gradually develops a deeper, warmer surface character. This traditional transformation, known as yanghu, allows the teapot to become increasingly individual over time.

Care

Everything you may want to knowProduct questions

A practical guide to materials, making, care, delivery and returns.

Choose a topic

What materials are used?

Materials vary by product and are listed on each product page.

Are the glazes food-safe?

Products intended for tea or food contact are selected for normal domestic use. Where a product is designed for drinking, brewing or serving tea, it is intended to be used for that purpose.

What materials are used?

Our pieces are handcrafted in stoneware and porcelain, sourced from regions in China renowned for centuries of ceramic tradition.

Jingdezhen, known as China's porcelain capital for over a thousand years, produces our fine porcelain pieces, prized for their smooth white body and ability to take detailed glazes. Yixing, famous for its zisha (purple clay) stoneware, produces our unglazed and reactive-glaze stoneware pieces, valued for their density and the way the clay develops character with use.

Each piece is fired and finished by hand, which is why glaze patterns, especially on reactive-glaze stoneware, vary slightly from piece to piece. Material and exact origin are noted on each individual product page.

Are your products lead-free?

For products intended for tea or food contact, we aim to source items suitable for normal domestic use. If a product has specific safety, material or testing information, we will include it on the product page. If you need confirmation for a specific item, contact us before ordering.

Can I use the product every day?

Yes, unless stated otherwise on the product page. Our tea ware is selected to balance design with practical everyday use. To preserve the finish, we recommend gentle handling and following the care instructions for each product.

Why do colours, glaze or texture vary slightly?

Many tea ware pieces are shaped, glazed, fired or finished in small batches. Heat, glaze, clay body and hand finishing can create subtle differences in colour, texture and surface. These variations are part of the character of crafted tea ware.

What materials are used?

Materials vary by product and are listed on each product page.

How are the pieces made?

The making process depends on the product. Pieces may be shaped, cast, glazed, fired, polished or finished by skilled workshops. This process gives each item its texture, weight, tone and character.

Why are there small variations between pieces?

Small variations are rare, but they can occasionally happen during shaping, glazing, firing or finishing. Slight differences in colour, surface, texture or form may occur from one piece to another and are part of the character of crafted tea ware.

Is it suitable as a gift?

Yes. Chadao pieces are selected to feel considered, calm and gift-ready, making them suitable for tea lovers, design-conscious homes and thoughtful everyday rituals.
